Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team at Baystate Springfield. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the nursing team. Your responsibilities will include direct patient care, hygiene, skin care, mobility, and monitoring. You will also be responsible for performing phlebotomy and EKGs, managing equipment, and assisting with procedures. Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide age-appropriate care to patients, taking into account their developmental stages and applying developmental theories and concepts when implementing care. Monitor basic physiological parameters, including vital signs, and report any significant deviations immediately. Record and report any changes in patient drainage patterns, such as gastric, wound, or blood drainage. Administer treatments and procedures in accordance with BMC policy and procedure. Change dressings within one hour of the specified timeframe and provide postmortem care as directed by the RN. Perform all procedures outlined in the nursing procedure manual within your area of responsibility. Assist physicians with exams and simple procedures, ensuring patient identity by checking identification bracelets and bands prior to performing any procedure. Assist patients with elimination of body wastes, making available or offering bedpans, urinals, and emesis basins immediately after patient request. Accurately label and send specimens of urine, feces, and sputum within 30 minutes of the specified timeframe, unless discussed with the RN. Accurately measure and record intake and output in accordance with established policy. Administer enemas or Harris drips as ordered in accordance with established procedure. Perform POC testing and assist in the delivery of ancillary services as directed. Communicate effectively with the team and patients in a respectful and informative manner, clearly communicating information related to patient care to the team. Recognize culturally based patient and family needs. Initiate emergency procedures and respond effectively in emergency situations, maintaining patient safety at all times. Function as a member of the team, assisting team members with clinical activities, providing feedback related to the team process, and assisting team members with non-clinical activities. Competencies and completion and maintenance of clinical recognition program for career ladder level.
Requirements:
1. One year of acute care experience. Preferred work experience: None listed. Skills and Competencies: Proficient in reading and writing in English.
