Job Summary: The Accountant I at Tri-State Hospital works closely with the Senior Accountant and Controller to prepare and calculate monthly reports for provider productivity. This role requires analyzing monthly charges to ensure accuracy, including researching patient accounts and understanding information on patient billing. The Accountant I is responsible for maintaining and updating the productivity reporting software, generating detailed reports, and ensuring accuracy and consistency. This position demands excellent attention to detail to produce well-organized, accurate, and complete final reports that are both time and data sensitive.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Senior Accountant and Controller in preparing various statistical reports.
  • Perform analyses and research projects as requested or needed.
  • Assist in the monthly close process.
  • Help the Controller and coworkers with entry-level accounting tasks and reports, including journal entries and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain hospital contract records and manage database users.
  • Organize and manage semi-annual ER Time Study.
  • Assist with Annual Budgets preparation and monthly budget variance reports.
  • Assist with General Ledger reconciliations/Cost Report work papers.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel; basic proficiency in other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively determine priorities and plan workday with minimal supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to meet deadlines, including those of a last-minute nature.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving techniques and interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to adapt to various programs/systems.
  • Ability to communicate face-to-face and via telephone with patients and coworkers.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems independently.
  • Maintain a positive teamwork attitude and self-motivation.
  • Ability to compile accurate data and present to the Executive Council.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new and varying tasks as requested.
  • Basic understanding of accounting functions.
Education:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting or a closely related field.
Experience:
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in accounting is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare-related setting is preferred.
