Job Summary

The Campus Safety Officer is a vital member of the Lewis University Police Department, responsible for maintaining security and safety on campus. This role requires a strong commitment to service and a passion for providing positive interactions with the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency situations, utilizing tact, diplomacy, and good judgment to resolve issues.
  • Provide first-responder first aid, including CPR and AED utilization.
  • Investigate fire and burglar alarm activations, and participate in the implementation of the University Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Conduct routine patrols and security activities, including providing campus-wide security, reporting disturbances, and regulating access to the campus.
  • Assist in the investigation of suspicious and/or criminal occurrences, and provide functional supervision to student workers as assigned.
  • Operate and service department vehicles safely, and maintain a working knowledge of department policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma.
  • Possess a valid Illinois driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Comply with all laws and regulations related to the confidentiality of criminal justice records.
  • Read, understand, and interpret policies, procedures, and codes.
  • Work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and retain information.
  • Communicate effectively verbally, in written and electronic formats.
  • Interact positively and collaboratively with a diverse group of co-workers, students, faculty, staff, and other criminal justice system representatives.
  • Have the ability to walk, run, climb, provide assistance to persons in distress, operate required equipment, and work outdoors in various adverse weather conditions.
  • Be able to work with flexible schedules involving evening, weekend, and holiday work.
  • Possess the ability to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory, and manual dexterity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in law enforcement or public safety, specifically on a college or university campus.
  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • LEADS and CJIS certification.
