Job Title: Deputy Sheriff

Isanti County is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Deputy Sheriff to join our team. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will play a critical role in maintaining public safety and enforcing laws and ordinances in our community.

Job Summary:

The Deputy Sheriff will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including:

  • Providing routine patrol service to the community to identify potential criminal/non-criminal activities, traffic, and health and safety concerns;
  • Investigating criminal activities, such as burglaries, child abuse and neglect, vehicular homicide, and other serious crimes;
  • Managing traffic incidents, such as accidents, property damage, and personal injury;
  • Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, and enforcing appropriate laws and/or ordinances;
  • Assisting state patrol, Department of Natural Resources, and other counties as needed;
  • Performing special assignments, including entry team, detox transfers, mental illness transfers, and prisoner transfers;
  • Reviewing, receiving, and preparing various reports, documents, and forms;
  • Communicating with the public as a representative of the Sheriff's office;
  • Delivering community relations services, facilitating public discussions and presentations on drugs, abductions, gangs, crime prevention, and related programs;
  • Exercising teamwork with other county employees and management in carrying out the shared mission of serving the public.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associate's or Technical degree, and minimal experience in law enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Possession of a Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) License upon hire;
  • A valid driver's license;
  • The ability to plan and organize work effectively, communicate both orally and in writing, and coordinate and activate department plans of action with other departments of government;
  • The ability to manage time and stressors, assemble and maintain data records, and employ critical decision-making skills;
  • The ability to understand and interpret budgets, establish and maintain effective working relationships with County Board, co-workers, other government, volunteer, social, and industry officials, media, and the public;
  • The ability to maintain a regular and timely work attendance.
Working Conditions:

This role requires working in a variety of environments, including high, precarious places, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold and heat, and exposure to blood-borne pathogens. You will also be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and work in moderately noisy locations.

The position requires driving at high rates of speed on all types of road conditions while responding to stressful emergency calls. You will also be required to deal with hostile and combative persons, as well as people wielding deadly weapons.

The position is unique in that it requires the individual to work rotating shifts under many different conditions. This position is susceptible to working under wet, humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, extreme weather conditions, and dusty and dry conditions.

The Deputy must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machines, including squad car automobiles, in-automobile computer and camera systems, evidence kits, audio and video surveillance equipment, cameras, first aid materials, personal protective gear, two-way radio, firearms, explosive devices, restraint devices, computer, telephone, copier/printer/scanner, facsimile machine, and hand tools.

The Deputy must be capable of exercising self-control and physical effort when confronted with emergencies and potentially dangerous situations involving the use of firearms and physical force.

The Deputy must demonstrate skill and proficiency in the operation of law enforcement vehicles, firearms, restraints, and other equipment.

The Deputy has direct exposure to various types of evidentiary items, including narcotics, chemicals used to manufacture narcotics, drug paraphernalia, human and animal bodily fluids, and weapons.

Physical demand requirements are a variable blend of sedentary or office environment work and intermittent heavy physical exertion, sometimes without opportunity to prepare.
