Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Back Office Medical Assistant plays a vital role in delivering compassionate and efficient patient care within our healthcare facility. Under the guidance of the Clinic Administrator and Supervisor, this position involves collaborating with healthcare professionals to assist with clinical tasks, manage patient intake, and ensure accurate medical record-keeping. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute routine (noninvasive) patient care tasks as directed by licensed healthcare personnel, adhering to established clinic protocols and procedures.
  2. Support healthcare providers during patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  3. Prepare examination rooms by maintaining cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies.
  4. Guide patients to examination rooms and gather vital signs, medical history, and primary concerns.
  5. Assist in patient education and provide information regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
  6. Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and maintain a safe, clean environment.
  7. Collect and document patient data, including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximeter readings, and peak flow measurements, following established policies.
  8. Conduct lab tests, including finger sticks, after receiving appropriate training and competency verification.
  9. Apply aseptic techniques and infection control measures as per established policies.
  10. Accurately document patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  11. Engage in assigned staff meetings and other gatherings, including quality improvement sessions, case conferences, and in-service training.
  12. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
  13. Participate in annual customer service training provided by JWCH.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program with a current MA certification.
  3. Verification of completion of required hours in an approved Medical Assistant course for venipuncture.
  4. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  5. Preferred: Two years of experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
  7. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a dynamic environment.
  8. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
