POSITION OVERVIEW


The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical controlled (CNC) vertical machining centers, CNC lathes, and 4-axis controllers to manufacture high-precision metallic and non-metallic components by executing the following tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:


Adhering to all safety protocols, procedures, and guidelines as outlined in the company’s Employee Handbook, Haz Com program, Lockout Tagout, and other safety documentation.


Interpreting blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to ascertain dimensions and tolerances of finished components, operation sequences, and setup requirements.


Creating, adjusting, or modifying CNC programs either manually or utilizing Computer Aided Machining (CAM) software.

Measuring, marking, and verifying specification dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces to guide subsequent machining processes.


Selecting, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machinery such as mills, lathes, and drill presses.

Calculating and setting machine controls to regulate machining parameters such as speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or entering commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.


Initiating and monitoring machine operations to identify malfunctions, tool collisions, out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusting machine controls or control media as necessary.


Verifying the quality of finished components against specifications through drawings, fit, or function of a part, or measurement using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, and other equipment as trained or assigned.


Conducting trial runs to confirm the accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data to prevent crashes or damage to machines, tools, or materials.

Assisting in determining optimal machining methods.

Providing labor times, machining rates, and feasibility assessments for cost estimation.

Assembling components into complete assemblies per: drawings, fit and function, and customer specifications.


Collaborating with engineers and internal stakeholders to discuss and analyze the conformity, application, or function of completed parts to resolve machining or assembly issues.


Designing, producing, and implementing fixtures, setup tools, or guards to safely and efficiently hold or produce materials for CNC machining applications.

Complying with scheduled overtime hours based on customer demand and requirements.


Demonstrating a willingness to engage in new learning opportunities and adapt to other areas or departments as needed for cross-training purposes.

Complying with all applicable ISO and Quality standards, written work instructions, and company policies.

Understanding, supporting, implementing, and sustaining 5S program initiatives and goals as required.

Upholding the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policy.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
An Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and two years of related experience and/or training; or a minimum of four years of job shop-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification of completion of a Certified Apprenticeship Program is also acceptable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business and technical documents. Ability to write effectively. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
