Job Summary

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Substitute Nurse to join our team. As a Substitute Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing general organizational support and implementing the assigned school health program in a way that is best suited to the school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supports and Upholds the Philosophy of Catholic Education: The Substitute Nurse will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school, acting as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Acts as a Health Advocate: The Substitute Nurse will serve as a health advocate for the child and assess student health needs, assuming responsibility for management and planning for acute, chronic, and emergency health problems.
  • Maintains Accurate Records: The Substitute Nurse will maintain current and accurate records according to school policy, providing relevant counseling and guidance to assist children and parents in assuming responsibility for health maintenance of the student.
  • Coordinates Health Screenings: The Substitute Nurse will coordinate health screenings as required by Texas State Law and ensure that follow-up care for the students is provided by their parents.
  • Anticipates Supply and Equipment Needs: The Substitute Nurse will anticipate supply and equipment needs appropriate to maintaining a continuous functional health program, allocating appropriate job functions and assuming responsibility for supervision of school staff or substitute nurses.
Requirements
  • Education/Certification: A Registered Nurse, RN, licensed to practice in the state of Texas, or a Licensed Vocational Nurse, LVN, in the state of Texas under the clinical supervision of a School Nurse Consultant.
  • Experience: None required.
  • Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church, knowledge and skills necessary in health appraisals for identifying student health problems, and ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
Working Conditions
  • Required to Work Some Nights and Weekends: The Substitute Nurse will be required to work some nights and weekends, managing high to moderate levels of emotions and working a minimum of a full school day.
  • Required to Work in Standard Office and School Conditions: The Substitute Nurse will be required to work in standard office and school conditions, lifting or carrying office supplies, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds.
Mental/Physical Demands
  • Required to Maintain Composure: The Substitute Nurse will be required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion, sitting, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, grabbing, pulling, hearing, seeing, and speaking on a daily basis.
  • Required to Perform Repetitive Physical Tasks: The Substitute Nurse will be required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading.
