The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for assessing and addressing patients' responses to actual or potential health issues in an acute care environment by utilizing the nursing process. This role involves coordinating care with other healthcare professionals, delegating tasks to nursing staff, supervising care delivery, providing direct patient care, and evaluating patient outcomes. The nurse will maintain clinical competence and contribute to the advancement of nursing standards through active participation in professional committees and organizations.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited RN program. Current licensure in NYS or eligibility for a limited practice permit is necessary. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred; candidates without a BSN must enroll in a program within two years of hire and complete it within six years of employment. A minimum of one year of experience in acute care is preferred. Current BLS certification is required. Depending on the unit's needs, current certifications in ACLS, PALS, and NRP may also be required. Board Certification is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments using both subjective and objective data.
• Analyze assessment data to establish nursing diagnoses.
• Prioritize patient needs, considering physiological, social, psychological, spiritual, and age-specific factors, and select appropriate diagnoses for the acute care episode.
• Create an individualized patient care plan based on assessments, utilizing nursing standards and protocols, with measurable outcomes and timelines tailored to the patient's condition and age.
• Implement patient care as outlined in the care plan and monitor responses to interventions.
• Delegate patient care tasks to non-RN staff and oversee their performance.
• Assess the effectiveness of patient care and the timeliness of achieving outcomes, incorporating feedback from the healthcare team, including patients and families.
• Communicate the patient's care plan to all healthcare team members and document in the medical record.
• Organize and communicate nursing assignments based on patient acuity and staff qualifications.
• Identify patient education needs during initial and ongoing assessments, set goals, and develop teaching plans that align with the patient's learning capabilities and readiness.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to implement and coordinate educational initiatives focused on wellness, health maintenance, and recovery.
• Ensure a safe environment tailored to the patient's condition and age.
• Take responsibility for personal education and professional development.
• Engage in nursing performance improvement and interdisciplinary research activities as required.
• Adhere to institutional policies and procedures.

Salary Range: $37.54 - $53.18/hour Compensation is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be compensated within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary based on location.
