Position Overview:

The Yasama Nation is seeking a dedicated Biologist IV to lead our Wetlands Project. This role involves overseeing the management of wetland refuges, with a focus on acquisition, restoration, and monitoring of various properties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a team of biologists and field personnel to achieve the objectives of the Lower Yakima Valley Riparian Wetlands Restoration Project.
  • Develop and implement land management strategies for all properties funded by the project.
  • Collaborate with the Wildlife Realty Specialist to ensure compliance with agreements and Tribal resolutions.
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager and Tribal staff to identify and secure valuable habitat parcels.
  • Act as the primary contact for the Wildlife Program with various organizations involved in wetland and riparian habitat management.
  • Conduct field surveys to assess refuge properties and establish management priorities.
  • Assist in monitoring, grant management, and project execution as needed.

Examples of Duties:
  • Oversee the management of wildlife wetland properties in alignment with Tribal priorities.
  • Coordinate field crew activities, including maintenance tasks such as fence repairs and habitat surveys.
  • Prepare annual reports and budgets for funding agencies, ensuring expenditures align with approved budgets.
  • Update and create management plans for newly acquired properties.
  • Facilitate educational outreach regarding the Wildlife Program, particularly in relation to public hunting initiatives.
  • Monitor wildlife interactions on properties, collaborating with other biologists to establish monitoring protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with operational permits and maintain accurate records of activities.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing wildlife habitats and supervising staff.
  • Proficient in GIS software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.

  • Preference will be given to enrolled Yakama applicants, though all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
