Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to emergency calls and provide basic life support care to patients
• Perform primary and secondary patient assessments, including determining vital signs and medical history
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by medical professionals
• Operate life support equipment, including defibrillators and ventilators
• Provide advanced life support care to critical patients, including starting IV lines and administering medications
• Respond to incidents involving hazardous materials and provide emergency decontamination and treatment as needed
• Transport patients to and from medical facilities, including hospitals and specialized medical centers
• Maintain accurate records and reports for administrative and operational activities

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by vocational/technical training in emergency medical services, firefighting, and cardiac technician services
• 1-2 years of experience in emergency fire and rescue work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate or Paramedic by the Virginia Department of Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services
• TEMS release and certification requirements to practice as an ALS provider
• Possession of a valid driver's license

Working Conditions:

The work is physically demanding, requiring the ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The position also requires the use of fingers, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, hearing, grasping, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, visual acuity, and walking.

Benefits:

This part-time position is eligible for leave accrual and other benefits. If selected, you will be required to submit a minimum of 10 days of availability per month to include nights and weekends for staff scheduling. All County employees may be required to report to serve our customers during emergency conditions.
