POSITION TITLE: Registered Nurse - Operating Room

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deliver exceptional patient care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcomes) throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical care.

SUPERVISION: Reports to the Director of Nursing

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program
  • Current Registered Nurse License
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Exhibits comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in accordance with recognized nursing standards and departmental policies, including the Patient Bill of Rights and AAAHC regulations.
  • Evaluates physiological and psychosocial health status of patients.
  • Conducts pain assessments as per policy.
  • Completes thorough patient histories.
  • Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
  • Documents patient information accurately and signs records with the appropriate professional title.
  • Assesses patient understanding and expectations of care.
  • Identifies desired patient outcomes and establishes nursing diagnoses.
  • Creates mutually acceptable patient/family goals.
  • Develops individualized Plan of Care.
  • Implements nursing care plans tailored to patient and family needs.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving and assessment skills.
  • Responds effectively to emergencies.
  • Practices within legal and ethical guidelines, including the Nurse Practice Act and ANA Code for Nurses.
  • Demonstrates accountability in nursing actions, exhibiting flexibility and safe judgment.
  • Continuously adjusts care plans based on patient and family data.
  • Ensures proper preoperative communication and reporting.
  • Follows proper procedures for surgical case counting and aseptic techniques.
  • Maintains efficient turnover times.
  • Follows protocols for obtaining blood products and verifying patient identification.
  • Ensures accurate surgical site identification and marking.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon during procedures.

  • Carrying: Up to 25 lbs. as necessary

  • Bending: Required to pick items off the floor
  • Squatting: As necessary during care
  • Rotating: Shoulders as necessary
  • Kneeling: If necessary while providing care
  • Reaching: Overhead while providing care
  • General comments: Adequate visual and hearing senses are necessary for patient care.
