Galley Utility

Summary:

The Galley Utility is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the galley and dish-wash area, adhering to Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation regulations and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement and execute food handling and cleaning procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Responsible for the proper cleaning and sanitizing of all galley equipment, utensils, and areas.
• Assist with trash removal and disposal, adhering to waste management protocols.
• Follow prescribed hours and maintain awareness of basic safety rules and workplace safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef or vessel management.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Alaska Food Worker Card issued by DEC.
• Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test.
• 6 months of experience in the culinary or restaurant industry within the last 2 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Culinary certification through school or previous company.
• Proven team player with a positive attitude.
• Organized, even-tempered, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to take directions and work with a diverse team.

Work Environment:

The galley environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a diverse workforce. Crew members stay in shared quarters onboard with limited privacy and constant vibration and engine noise. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this role include working a typical 10-14 hour workday, seven days a week, with occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces and climb a 7-foot vertical ladder is required.
