Job Summary:

The Mental Health Worker provides essential support to ensure the psychiatric and physical nursing care needs of patients are met. This role plays a vital part in promoting a healthy, safe, and therapeutic treatment setting that fosters recovery.

This includes functioning as a member of the healthcare team, evaluating, intervening, and providing therapeutic one-to-one interaction to patients using the Wellness and Recovery Philosophy.

The Mental Health Worker provides direct care to patients on the unit and participates in observing, recording, and reporting patient behaviors.

Under the direction of the facility's leadership, these individuals are responsible for ensuring the unit is safe and patients are actively participating in the program.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Initiate, observe, document, and communicate patient needs to ensure safety on the unit. This may include Line of Sight precautions or one-on-one supervision as clinically indicated and assigned.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate groups with other team members based on training and level of competence.
  • Assist patients in maintaining activities of daily living, including feeding, hygiene, and ambulating.
  • Exercise thorough knowledge of treatment philosophy, treatment goals, policies, rules, and regulations to make independent judgments in providing basic patient care activities.
  • Participate in the treatment planning process and support the implementation of the treatment plan on the unit with the patient.
  • Assist in delivering physical care as needed and perform other related duties as assigned.
