We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Histotechnician to join our team at Dermatology of Seattle. As a Histotechnician, you will play a critical role in supporting our dermatology practice by preparing tissue specimens for histology and grossing.
Key Responsibilities:- Accession samples using our established procedure.
- Provide accurate descriptions of gross specimens, including measurements and adjectives to create a visual picture for our physicians.
- Section tissue samples for processing and maintain the integrity and identification of each sample.
- Rotate tissue material preservation according to CLIA guidelines.
- Order supplies and reagents for the grossing area as needed.
- Record the daily accession count.
- Load prepared tissue samples onto the tissue processor.
- Prepare tissue specimens by embedding into blocks.
- Cut tissue blocks and prepare H&E slides of good technical quality.
- Perform special stains as requested by our providers.
- Maintain the required stains and reagents for routine and special procedures.
- Maintain proper records of all specimens received, special procedures done, filing of blocks, temporary storage of tissue specimens, and discarding of these specimens.
- Perform daily and monthly routine machine maintenance necessary for proper functioning of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain a neat and safe working environment.
- Perform any additional duties requested or necessary to complete the operation of the histology laboratory.
- Confirm to CLIA and OSHA regulations.
- Perform all duties of MOHS surgery, including embedding, cutting, and staining of fresh tissue.
- Perform all daily, monthly, and yearly preventive maintenance checks on relevant equipment.
- Ability to determine and provide for the needs of the area without a lot of direction.
- Ability to reorganize work and meet deadlines.
- Reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
- Personal discretion with patient information.
- Good communication skills for working with patients, co-workers, and providers.
- Clear speech and visual acuity.
- Walking to retrieve samples frequently during working hours.
- Some lifting of heavy objects required.
