Reel Tender

Job Summary:

The Chicago Tribune is seeking a skilled Reel Tender to join our production team. As a Reel Tender, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our newspaper printing presses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load large paper rolls into printing presses and discard spent rolls
• Review layouts for shifts to ensure knowledge of product name, printing order, and circulation order
• Check each layout for sizes and weights of paper needed
• Keep the reel room neat and empty trash every shift
• Inform the lead person of any defective rolls
• Drive the clamp jeep to unload rolls from rail cars and trucks
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Fluent English language skills to communicate with the production team
• Mechanical aptitude to work with printing press equipment
• Troubleshooting skills to diagnose problems and implement solutions
• Teamwork skills to work productively with production staff
