UTHealth Houston is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our team in Cardiovascular Surgery. As a key member of our medical staff, you will provide advanced medical care to patients with complex acute, critical, and/or chronic health conditions in a clinic or hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct complex patient care procedures, including monitoring and ordering medications, under the direction of a physician.
- Perform independent and physician-supervised rounding on unit, ensuring seamless patient care.
- Coordinate, direct, and implement patient care plans, taking into account individual needs and medical histories.
- Assist in collecting patient histories, screens for co-morbidities, and provides guidance and preventative health care as needed.
- Perform physical examinations and provide episodic care or problem-oriented care under the supervision of a physician.
- Order appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests and interpret results.
- Monitor treatment programs and inform attending physicians of pertinent medical information.
- Facilitate patient education on medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion or preventive health.
- Assist physicians in formulating therapeutic decisions.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare chart documentation for review and counter signature by the physician.
- Prepare and care for supplies and equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations.
- Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant.
- Current Physician Assistant certification issued by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified or specialty certification as required by department.
- Proficient in the use of medical and surgical instruments and equipment required by work.
- Master's degree as Physician Assistant.
- Bachelor's degree as Physician Assistant with at least two years of professional experience in the role is acceptable based on terminal degree requirements at the time of graduation.
