Job Summary

Ottumwa Community Schools is seeking a qualified substitute custodian to assist with daily operations when regular employees are absent. This is a day-to-day, on-call position with no guarantee of regular scheduled work.

The substitute custodian will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in the designated facility. Key duties include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and common areas, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, and assisting with setup and maintenance of facilities for meetings and events.

Responsibilities
• Report to a Custodial Lead and follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, bathrooms, and common areas using established practices and procedures.
• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture, and empty and clean wastebaskets and trash containers.
• Assist with setup and maintenance of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events.
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, including buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, and high-pressure washers.
• Wash walls and equipment, and perform related activities such as removing snow and debris from sidewalks and stairs.

Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.

Hourly Rate
$16.24/hour
