The Assistant Athletic Trainer is a key member of the Sports Medicine Department at Pomona College, responsible for providing medical care and support to the college's varsity student-athletes. This role requires a high level of expertise in athletic training, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities- Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries: The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work to prevent injuries and illnesses among student-athletes, and provide prompt and effective treatment when injuries do occur.
- Medical Coverage for Practices and Games: The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide medical coverage for practices and games, including administering first aid and providing emergency care as needed.
- Counseling and Education: The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide counseling and education to student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and other health-related topics.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: The Assistant Athletic Trainer will maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student-athlete injuries and illnesses, including progress notes and treatment plans.
- Administration and Supervision: The Assistant Athletic Trainer may be responsible for supervising student employees and athletic training interns, and assisting with the administration of the Sports Medicine Department.
- Master's Degree: A master's degree in athletic training or a related field is preferred.
- Certification: Certification from the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) is required.
- Experience: Experience working in an academic institution is preferred.
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interactions with student-athletes, coaches, and other staff members. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
