Conventional Loan Underwriter

As a Mortgage Underwriter Specialist at Wintrust Financial, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of conventional mortgage loans. Your attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks will be essential in meeting the high standards of our organization.
Key Responsibilities- Underwrite conventional mortgage loans to determine compliance with relevant agency, investor, and internal guidelines.
- Review and verify all follow-up conditions from initial approval, suspension, or decline for acceptability.
- Maintain a maximum 48-hour turn time on all loans.
- Ensure all loans underwritten will be eligible for sale to end investors and appropriate government agencies.
- Support and utilize pipeline management to optimize loan processing.
- Clear High Impact Alerts in fraud detection tools and monitor misrepresentation risk for all loans.
- Validate all Automated Underwriting System (AUS) findings submissions to determine all requirements are met.
- Obtain second signatures from management for all loans exceeding lending authority.
- Collaborate with Loan Originators, Loan Originating Assistants, and Processors to ensure seamless loan processing.
- Return all phone calls and emails in a timely fashion.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with market trends, changing guidelines, and requirements.
- Enter data into the Loan Origination System (LOS) to provide minimum fields needed for proper reporting for data for the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and other reporting.
- Perform other mortgage operations duties as needed.
- 0-3 years of underwriting experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
