Position Overview

The University of Minnesota is seeking a dedicated individual for a part-time role within our research team. This position involves assisting in various laboratory experiments and supporting data management efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Experimental Assistance (70%):
• Support molecular biology experiments focused on gene regulation.
• Conduct cell homing studies utilizing in vivo models of human diseases.
• Participate in determining cell fate through genetic and epigenetic methodologies.
• Aid in the development and documentation of laboratory procedures.
• Provide basic care for laboratory mice, including weaning and breeding tasks.

Data Collection and Analysis (20%):
• Ensure accurate and comprehensive data recording from experiments.
• Analyze experimental data and prepare summary reports.
• Communicate findings to supervisors and adjust research direction based on feedback.
• Prepare data for inclusion in grant applications and scholarly articles.

Laboratory Maintenance (10%):
• Maintain readiness of equipment and supplies for ongoing experiments.
• Monitor inventory levels and order necessary materials to ensure smooth operations.
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization within the lab, including proper disposal of hazardous materials and routine equipment upkeep.

Qualifications

Required:
• A Bachelor's degree in a Biomedical Science discipline or equivalent experience totaling at least four years in a related field.

Preferred:
• Strong organizational skills for maintaining documentation and reports.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as PCR, SDS-PAGE, column chromatography, and ELISA assays.
• Coursework in biostatistics to assist with data analysis.
• Experience in conducting multi-step experiments involving animal cells and cell culture.
