Job Summary

The Senior Data Analyst will be responsible for detailed field-level analysis, profiling, and metadata analysis of IBM Mainframe VSAM files. They will create and maintain the master data dictionary, assist in database design, and map data to NYCERS' mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in the identification, inventory, and classification of NYCERS' critical data.
Work with data SMEs to document data quality rules and definitions.
Actively participate in the optimization and performance tuning of existing ETL and SQL processes.
Extract business rules from existing legacy code and create source-to-target mappings.
Transform business rules and data quality rules into ETL and/or SQL technical specifications.
Provide technical and analytical support to NYCERS' data integrity and quality initiatives.
Collaborate with SMEs and technical leads in identifying and addressing data quality gaps.
Work with IT partners to remediate identified gaps using both manual and automated solutions.
Support processes that proactively detect, correct, and prevent invalid data values.
Defect handling and problem resolution.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of source-to-target data mapping experience in mixed Mainframe and Relational Database environments.
Hands-on IBM DataStage ETL administration experience in Windows environments.
Hands-on experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) platform.
Hands-on experience with IBM RAA (Rational Asset Analyzer).
Experience creating data dictionary documentation with business terms, valid values, and definitions.
Experience converting/migrating VSAM data to relational/dimensional SQL distributed databases.
Minimum 3 years of recent experience developing applications using IBM DataStage ETL.
Experience extracting field references and calculated data from COBOL programs.
Experience with BMC Control-M workload automation software.
Experience with GIT version control software, Build, and CICD pipeline automation.
Minimum 3 years of recent experience with Pension Administration systems.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and information gathering skills along with fundamental technique troubleshooting abilities.
Strong SQL knowledge working with complex queries and stored procedures.
Proficiency in LINUX/UNIX Shell scripting, C#, and VB.NET.
Proficiency in SSRS reports' development and administration.
Ability to work in multiple environments: IBM Mainframe, Windows Server, and SQL Server.
Proficiency in mainframe applications encompassing COBOL and CICS.
Proficiency creating Control-M Jobs, Smart Folders, Schedules with complex interdependencies.
Understanding of data structures and their relationship to ETL applications.

Preferred Skills

Experience extracting business rules from existing legacy code.
Experience with Data Quality/Profiling tools.
Experience with Data Warehouses/Data Marts.
Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
Prior experience working in a pension system, preferably New York State or New York City pension system.
