The Humanities Department at San Jose State University serves as a vital hub for innovative, interdisciplinary education and research. We provide three undergraduate degree programs: the Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation B.A., the Creative Arts B.A., and the Humanities B.A., where students can focus on concentrations such as American Studies, Liberal Arts, or Comparative Religious Studies. Key Responsibilities
As a faculty member, you will teach a variety of courses within the Creative Arts Program in the Humanities Department, including both lower- and upper-division classes. Responsibilities include:
- Course Offerings: Engage students in courses such as:
- "Creativity Matters" (CA60) - Investigate the significance of creativity across various life domains.
- "Introduction to Queer Arts" (CA95) - Explore the artistic expressions of LGBTQ communities throughout history.
- "The Arts in U.S. Society" (CA172) - Analyze American arts within their social and political contexts, emphasizing cultural diversity and social justice.
- "Thinking about Contemporary World Arts" (CA173) - Conduct interdisciplinary studies linking contemporary arts to global cultures.
- "Creativity & Creative Leadership" (CA176) - Examine the interplay between creativity, the arts, and leadership.
- Maintain regular office hours to support student engagement and collaboration with fellow faculty and staff.
- Participate in course grading and assessment activities, ensuring a fair evaluation process.
- Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for all course organization.
- Ensure classes are conducted as scheduled throughout the semester in the designated format (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
Qualifications Required
- MFA, ABD, or Ph.D. in Performance Studies, Art History, Literature, or a related discipline with proficiency in multiple arts areas.
- Demonstrated strong teaching abilities at the college level.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to inclusive educational practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of scholarly activity is advantageous.
- Preference for candidates with an MFA or Ph.D. and professional experience in at least one arts discipline.
Compensation
Salary and compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary ranges are as follows:
- L-A / Range 2 - $5007 - $5675
- L-B / Range 3 - $5925 - $7125
- L-C / Range 4 - $6500 - $8982
- L-D / Range 5 - $8184 - $9854
These figures represent the expected monthly salary for full-time academic year faculty, with part-time rates prorated accordingly.
