Job Overview

The Printing Press Technician is tasked with the setup and operation of the assigned printing press. This role is crucial in ensuring the precision and quality of the printed materials produced. The technician will also play a key role in mentoring new staff members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), ergonomic practices, and chemical safety measures, while maintaining a safe work environment for all personnel.

• Interpret and comprehend job orders and specifications accurately.

• Implement and maintain quality control procedures within the pressroom.

• Maintain effective communication with supervisors, incoming shifts, and management.

• Perform cleanup tasks and other procedures necessary for job completion.

• Assist in preparing for subsequent jobs, which includes:

  • Mixing inks.
  • Cleaning the press.
  • Ensuring the press area is tidy, including end-of-shift clean-up.
  • Staying productive during downtime.

• Communicate effectively through:

  • Accurate computer entries.
  • Following the chain of command from supervisor to department manager.
  • Being present at the workstation promptly at the start of the shift.

• Ensure compliance with all regulatory, facility food safety, and quality assurance policies, including product safety (GMP) standards.

Qualifications:

Essential Functions:

• Possess reading skills necessary to accurately interpret production orders and assign specific plates for jobs, as well as understand materials and reports.

• Distinguish subtle color variations to match samples and order specifications.

• Lift heavy air shafts (50-75 pounds) without assistance and manage heavier loads (100-300 pounds) with mechanical aids.

• Read measuring tools and apply general math skills for measuring roll dimensions and package sizes.

• Understand directional cues to follow operating instructions from peers and written guidelines.

• Exhibit agility for tasks such as climbing on the press and adjusting equipment safely.

• Maintain quick reflexes to respond to moving machinery and avoid potential injuries.

• Possess a good sense of smell to detect material odors and smoke.

• Follow detailed instructions independently and communicate operational issues to supervisors.

• Apply spatial skills to assess dimensions necessary for machinery operation.

• Develop mechanical knowledge of press operations, including components like rollers and safety mechanisms.

• Identify and resolve printing issues effectively to ensure quality output.

• Execute press procedures consistently for various orders.

• Maintain eyesight capable of discerning fine details necessary for quality printing.

• Record information electronically as required.

• Demonstrate maturity and a responsible attitude towards safe press operation.

• Interact with quality control and management to uphold quality standards.

• Evaluate plate quality to ensure only suitable plates are used for printing.

• Perform meticulous work under production demands.
