Pharmacy Intern Overview

The Pharmacy Intern plays a vital role in supporting pharmacists and administrative personnel in delivering pharmaceutical care services. This position involves engaging in pharmacy operations, managing medication distribution, overseeing inventory control, utilizing Omnicell systems, and ensuring ongoing technical proficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Medication Distribution
    • Accurately prepares pharmaceutical products under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, utilizing pharmacy software and hardware systems.
    • Executes Omnicell pharmacy operations efficiently.
    • Verifies the effectiveness of barcode scanning systems.
  • Inventory Management
    • Maintains adequate supplies of medications and materials in the pharmacy and designated care areas by monitoring inventory levels.
    • Implements cost-effective strategies in ordering and maintaining pharmaceutical stock.
  • Operational Duties
    • Provides courteous and supportive communication to patients, families, visitors, and healthcare staff at all times.
    • Completes assigned projects from management as required.
  • Professional Development
    • Keeps Pharmacy Intern licensure current and documents hours worked.
    • Assists in clinical initiatives as needed under the direct oversight of a licensed pharmacist.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma, currently enrolled in an accredited School/College of Pharmacy, or an unlicensed pharmacy school graduate.
  • License: MA Pharmacy Intern license is mandatory.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a pharmacy intern in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Work Schedule: Flexible shifts including weekends and holidays.
