About the Position

The U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking a highly skilled Museum Technician to join our team at Camp Nelson National Monument. As a Museum Technician, you will play a critical role in the preservation and interpretation of the monument's historic and archeological resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preventive conservation maintenance of museum collection artifacts in storage and on display.
  • Participate in the handling and preparation of museum collection artifacts, including transportation, packing, and unpacking for storage or display.
  • Implement and undertake museum environmental monitoring programs.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits.
  • Prepare, maintain, and organize curatorial records.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Appointment is subject to a background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • May be required to operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties.
  • Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license and submit certified driving records.
  • Will be required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.
  • May be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month.
  • Must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, including activities such as applying curatorial principles, preservation and conservation of museum collections, collecting and inventorying artifacts, and working with researchers.
  • Successful completion of at least one full academic year of related graduate-level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours, or equivalent).
  • Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.
Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
