Job Summary

The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of transportation services. This includes managing driver relationships, load planning, and customer service functions to ensure customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Driver Support: Build and maintain strong relationships with drivers by understanding and meeting their needs, including home time, payroll, equipment maintenance, and safety requirements.
  • Load Planning: Assign drivers to loads by optimizing load information, such as origination, destination, freight type, and driver availability, using computer systems and communication tools.
  • Customer Service: Monitor driver load assignments to meet customer service expectations and ensure safe, legal, and on-time delivery of freight.
  • Asset Utilization: Maximize asset utility while focusing on idle reduction and mpg improvement strategies.
  • Driver Utilization: Manage driver utilization to meet and exceed account goals, providing customer value.
  • Safety and Compliance: Monitor driver safety needs, pre-trip inspections, and CSA scores to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Home Time: Ensure home time is met for all drivers in accordance with account policies.
  • Customer Support: Coordinate maintenance needs of driver equipment, ensuring schedule services, recalls, and breakdowns are completed in a timely manner.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with drivers, internal associates, and customers.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Complete required account reporting for internal and external customers, analyzing data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Interface with various departments, such as billing, vans, customer service, risk, safety, payroll, fuel, maintenance, and external vendors.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, making safety-conscious decisions and promoting a safety culture.
  • Driver Retention: Continuously focus on driver retention, working closely with Dedicated Logistics Manager and/or Operations Supervisor to fill and maintain a full board of drivers.
  • Reporting and Accuracy: Daily reporting of driver Days in Service (DIS) with accuracy and attention to detail, impacting account billing.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform related duties, such as backing up the Dedicated Logistics Manager, auditing or compiling reports, or other assigned tasks by account leadership.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Transportation/Logistics, or two to three years of fleet management or transportation experience in the truckload industry.
  • Six months to one year of supervisory experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, proven management ability, and skill in operating a computer terminal and satellite communications system.
