Job Description:

Dewberry is a leading professional services firm with a strong presence in the healthcare industry. We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead our healthcare design team in Raleigh, NC. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-level direction to senior mechanical engineering staff and ensuring the successful completion of healthcare projects.

Responsibilities:

Office Operations:

Supervise mechanical discipline managers to ensure smooth intra-office operations and successful project delivery.


Service Line Operations:

Collaborate with the Chief Engineer to ensure successful inter-office operations and community of practice events.


Quality Management:
Ensure mechanical discipline managers comply with corporate quality management processes and procedures.

Technical Management:

Provide timely and adequate guidance and quality oversight of project work involving electrical engineering.


Staff Development Oversight:

Ensure mechanical discipline managers provide adequate technical training and development of staff.


Standards Development Oversight:
Establish and improve standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications for mechanical engineering.

Lead the development of office mechanical standards and coordinate those standards through the Chief Engineer.

Engineer of Record on select projects as needed.
Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions - technical and cost estimates.

Coordinate with client/project managers and department managers to resolve mechanical engineering conflicts.


Office Organizational Management:
Assist Office/Business Unit Manager to ensure successful office operations, including advice on staff organizational structure and office procedures.

Required Skills & Required Experience:
Experience in the design of institutional, educational, healthcare, laboratory, and military projects is desired.

The candidate should have a proven history of solid design work, meeting project deadlines and budgets, and working well in a team environment.

Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
Professional Engineers license. Existing licensure in NC and/or VA is preferred.
25+ years of technical experience in the design of healthcare systems.
Experience should include proven track record of directly managing a technical team.
Self-motivated and well organized.
Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
