Mobile Service Technician Job Overview

Ryder System is seeking an experienced Mobile Service Technician to join our team in Spokane, Washington.

About the Job

This is a permanent full-time position that requires a high level of technical expertise and customer service skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles, as well as interacting with customers to facilitate preventative maintenance, repair issue resolution, and new repair estimates.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of vehicle systems, including brakes, air, hydraulic, electrical, and suspension. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles
  • Interact with customers to facilitate preventative maintenance, repair issue resolution, and new repair estimates
  • Coordinate work schedules as required by customers
  • Road test vehicles to identify cause of complaints for repairs and ensure quality of repair work performed
  • Preventive maintenance (PM) and vehicle repairs responsibilities include but are not limited to: A/C & Heater, Brakes-Air, Brakes-Hydraulic, Cargo Handling/Transfer, Liftgates, Charging Systems (electrical), Clutch, Cooling Systems, Cranking System (electrical), Lighting System and Electrical Accessories, Drive Axles, Driveline, Gas Engines-All Engines, Fuel Systems, Preventive Maintenance, Steering and Non-driven Axles and Alignment, Suspension-Chassis and Cab, Tire and Wheel Maintenance, Vehicle Coupling System (PM)
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational or Technical Certification in vehicle maintenance and repair services preferred
  • Must have or meet federal PM certification requirements through any combination of classroom training or work experience totaling 1 year
  • One (1) year or more mechanical experience working offsite at customer locations preferred
  • Must have minimum tools required to perform their job duties as outlined in Ryder's Maintenance policy 2.02
  • Pass a Ryder drug test and previous employer's for the past 3 years, DOT physical, Ryder road test, pass a Ryder Background check and Motor vehicle check including Drug and Alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
  • Able to take home assigned mobile service truck as applicable and secure vehicle and contents preferred
  • Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles
  • Ability to understand and adhere to Company policies in all areas
  • Proven hands-on mechanic, customer service, and account management skills
  • Ability to complete repair orders with the Company established systems
  • Demonstrates customer service skills. Strong relationship management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to prioritize workload
  • Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment. Self-starter and self-sufficient approach

  • Valid NonCommercial Driver License CLASS E, Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A and/or State driver's license as required
  • Preventive Maintenance PM230 & PM298 within 90 Days
  • Other Brakes-Air BA220 & BA298 within 90 Days
  • Other Brake mechanics/inspectors FMCS 396.25
  • Other Hydraulic Brake BH220 & BH298 where appropriate within 90 Days
  • Other Tire & Wheel TW220 within 90 Days
  • Other CF609 & A/C trained and qualified AC220 & AC298 within 180 Days
  • Other Battery Charge and Check, Warranty
  • Other HD electrical - DR208 within 90 Days
  • Other Svc Island Support SBTIII trained (SBT220) and SBT Phase 2 within 180 Days
  • Other OEM on-line engine courses (minimum 2)
  • DOT Safety Regulated Position

  • Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder Drug Test

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $1120 per week or $28.00 per hour, depending on the type of employment and location.
