Patient Care Technician

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities, including personal, physical, and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse.
As a Patient Care Technician, you will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff. Your responsibilities will include observing and reporting patient concerns and changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient care duties.
- Recording vital signs, assisting with personal hygiene, and other patient comfort measures.
- Assisting in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
- Maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
- Reporting necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
- Preparing patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
- Communicating with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
- Assisting with administrative tasks to support department operations.
- Answering patient call bells and relaying messages to appropriate personnel.
This role requires heavy/hard work, including strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking. The work environment involves working closely with others, working protracted or irregular hours, working around biohazards, and working with electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
