This role involves overseeing the creation and refinement of design calculations, technical documentation, engineering drawings, and specifications for designated projects. The position collaborates closely with the project manager to conduct research, development, calculations, design, and delivery. It applies engineering methodologies, procedures, and design standards for projects of varying scales and complexities. The engineer will utilize technical expertise, experience, and client connections to aid in the execution and assessment of project designs. Responsibilities include developing both conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to facilitate project execution using contemporary drawing and technical tools, programs, and software. There may be opportunities to mentor, guide, and review the work of junior engineering staff, providing constructive insights. As a team member, you will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of diverse projects for HNTB's clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete assigned tasks within the established schedule and allocated hours.
  • Assist in formulating project specifications.
  • Responsible for generating discipline-specific engineering project components/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
  • Support the coordination and efficiency of project team members.
  • Provide technical mentorship to less experienced engineering project team members.
  • Collaborate closely with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Conduct quality control evaluations of discipline-specific engineering project components/deliverables.
  • Aid in the coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and workload distribution within the discipline.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering with 3 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with railroad guidelines, policies, standards, and preferences, including AREMA manuals.
  • Ability to optimize work processes by leveraging knowledge of the most effective and efficient methods to achieve objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Independently advance the majority of designs and tasks required for the discipline.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and MicroStation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering applications related to geometric and algebraic principles.
  • Effective time management, proactive forecasting, and communication of project development needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Experience with AREMA manual.
  • Familiarity with Class I railroad standard bridges
