Job Overview

Jensen Hughes is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented college students to join our Fire Protection Engineering department as interns. As a leading fire protection consulting firm, we provide a range of professional services involving life safety, fire protection, security, and mass notification on commercial, institutional, and industrial projects worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and modify drawings of systems or components, adhering to established standards.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and inspection reports for assigned tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with good professional service practice standards.
  • Assist in resolving design problems, including field investigations, detailed design work, and checking design computations.
  • Identify applicable codes and standards for evaluating responses to inquiries.
  • Conduct and document assigned work, such as basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, and sprinkler system reviews.
  • Perform basic calculations, including size requirements for means of egress, maximum allowable building area, and sprinkler system water supplies.
  • Effectively communicate with project team members, clients, and others.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles or construction technology and practices.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, and presentations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variable situations.
  • Responsible self-starter with problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • Intermediate-level personal computer skills, including electronic mail, database activity, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
