We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Certified Veterinary Technician. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to our animals, assisting in surgical procedures, and ensuring the health and well-being of our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in surgery, evaluate incoming animals for signs of illness, and perform medical and behavioral evaluations for adoption, foster, or rescue placement or euthanasia.
- Euthanize non-adoptable animals, administer vaccinations, test for heartworms, FIV, and FeLEUK, and perform routine lab work including fecals and skin scrapes.
- Record and control all controlled substances, assist in adoptions with customers, and prepare animals for surgery.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, anesthesia, and injections, and enforce security of drugs and barbiturates in accordance with federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Perform pre-surgery physical examinations and evaluations, report known history of animal, blood work results, and vaccinations, and examine, evaluate, and vaccinate impounded animals.
- Draw blood for clinic blood banks and perform assigned laboratory tasks.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Veterinary Medical Technician Certification.
- Applicants possessing a Veterinary Medical Technician Certification from another state or graduates of American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited Veterinary Technician programs may be considered for employment but must acquire Florida certification within 6 months.
- Must undergo pre-exposure rabies vaccinations and euthanasia certification within 6 months of hire.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Physical strength and agility to lift heavy animals, equipment, and supplies.
- Exposure to personal risk during assignments causing periodic contact with hostile or diseased animals.
- Previous animal handling experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
