Job Overview:
We are in search of a proficient Mechanical Engineer specializing in battery thermal management systems for electric locomotives.

The ideal candidate will take charge of leading initiatives aimed at cost reduction and material optimization, employing innovative methodologies to improve efficiency and minimize expenses within the realm of locomotive thermal management systems.


Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee and implement cost-saving projects related to battery thermal management systems utilized in electric locomotives.

Apply established cost-reduction techniques such as Functional Analysis System Technique (FAST) and Should Cost Analysis to pinpoint feasible cost-saving opportunities.

Collaborate with Sourcing and Manufacturing teams to strategize and execute cost-reduction plans for locomotives.
Manage and ensure the successful execution of cost-reduction projects, following the company's design review protocols.
Select suitable metallic and non-metallic materials for coolant piping, connections, and support structures.
Develop Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and formulate Verification and Validation plans for assigned projects.
Conduct and assist in validation activities in line with company procedures, ensuring effective implementation in relevant laboratories.
Lead and manage cost-reduction projects, encompassing design, analysis, validation, and production initiation.
Work closely with both internal and external suppliers to address product modification requests, quality issues, and shop support.
Assist manufacturing and supply chain teams to guarantee high manufacturability, making necessary updates to drawings and models.
Oversee work assignments with moderate to high complexity, achieving short-term goals and efficiently resolving challenges.
Prepare and present technical information to both internal and external stakeholders.
Document and communicate testing and analysis outcomes.
Engage in teams assigned to specific organizational projects.
Encourage open communication and information sharing across teams.
Prepare invention disclosures to safeguard proprietary technology.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, focusing on liquid-cooled thermal management systems.
Demonstrated experience in designing piping systems for engine cooling, power electronics cooling, or battery cooling systems.
Strong understanding of packaging requirements for high voltage equipment.
Expertise in heat transfer methods, including conduction, natural convection, and forced convection.
Experience with 3D CAD modeling software.
Proficiency in finite element analysis tools for mechanical loads, such as Ansys.

Skills:
Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Capability to operate in heavy industrial manufacturing and laboratory settings.
Ability to set up instrumentation and testing apparatus and conduct validation testing on large industrial vehicles.

Compensation:
