Job Summary
The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program offers enrichment and academic experiences for students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade. LUSD is seeking individuals interested in supporting students before and after school.
Instructional aides in this program will assist students with academic tasks in English Language Arts and Math, engage in art activities, facilitate STEAM projects, and promote physical education.
Job Description / Essential Elements:
SUMMARY OF POSITIONS:
Collaborate under the guidance of the site administrator to enhance instructional activities for students. A significant portion of the role involves direct interaction with students to address their learning and physical needs. Reinforce educational concepts as directed by the teacher or specialist in small groups or as necessary. Assist in supervising students during recess and lunch.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
Report directly to School Administration, with potential technical or functional oversight from a certificated instructor or other certificated personnel.
DUTIES:
- Support the teacher in planning and executing instructional activities while ensuring effective communication to meet institutional goals.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials and study aids for student use in classrooms or individual study.
- Help students comprehend and clarify instructional assignments under the teacher's direction.
- Work independently with small groups and individuals, including performing physical tasks to support students with disabilities.
- Assist in administering and scoring assessments.
- Communicate the purposes and activities of the instructional program and District Mission to students, parents, and community members.
- Maintain necessary records for program management and compliance.
- Report any unusual student behavior, including suspected child abuse, to the instructor.
- Supervise children in non-classroom settings.
- Refer disciplinary issues to the instructor and/or site administration.
- Assist in organizing field trips and accompany classes on these outings, providing supervision as needed.
- Perform various clerical tasks, including preparing and copying classroom instructional materials.
- Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Correct English usage, including vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Specific teaching methods and techniques relevant to the school's instructional plan.
- General classroom procedures and rules of conduct.
- Effective communication in both oral and written forms.

- Operation of audiovisual equipment.
ABILITY TO:
Accept supervision and collaborate effectively with staff. Support the school/program in planning and implementing instructional activities. Demonstrate care and concern for students in an educationally appropriate manner. Maintain confidentiality regarding student status and classroom activities. Understand, implement, and provide oral and written directions in English.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
All candidates must pass a pre-employment examination, TB clearance, and fingerprint screening. A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable.
