Position Overview Exciting Opportunity for New Graduate RNs in Medical Surgical

The StaRN/Residency Program is a comprehensive yearlong initiative that commences with a 10-16 week (depending on specialty) PAID Classroom and Preceptorship training. This program is designed for newly graduated nurses to gain essential acute care nursing experience through an immersive internship. Available positions may vary throughout the year, based on the hospital's needs, with typical units hiring StaRN residents including:

  • Medical Surgical
  • Emergency Services (limited)

Part 1: StaRN Training – Initial 5-8 Weeks (depending on specialty):

  • Instructor-led classroom education
  • Advanced simulation training with thorough debriefing
  • Certifications required for each unit
  • Training on electronic charting systems
  • Typical schedule is Monday-Friday, with 40-hour work weeks (8-hour days)

Part 2: StaRN Clinical Preceptorship – Following 7-8 Weeks (depending on specialty):

  • Conducted within the hospital environment
  • Assignment of a dedicated preceptor for personalized training and acclimatization
  • Regular development meetings between the resident, preceptor, and Director
  • Customized Coaching/Onboarding report for the clinical preceptorship
  • Typical schedule includes three-hour shifts at the hospital

Part 3: Residency Program – Remaining Duration of Your First Year

  • Upon successful completion of the StaRN Program, residents will transition into full-time roles at the hospital and continue their professional development through ongoing mentorship (meetings at least once a month)
  • Completion of an evidence-based capstone project

Qualifications:

  • Current South Carolina RN license or Multi-state Compact RN license (or ability to obtain)
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program within the past year
  • Acceptance into the program requires a two (2) year, full-time commitment to the hospital. If a nurse departs before fulfilling the two-year commitment, they may incur a financial obligation.
  • Strong self-motivation and communication skills are essential
  • Consistent attendance is crucial throughout the StaRN Training program
