Position Overview:
The Patient Access Representative I plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and comprehensive registration for each patient visit. This position is responsible for gathering essential demographic and financial information, as well as securing necessary signatures for compliant billing submissions. The representative collects patient liabilities at or before the time of service in accordance with the patient's insurance plan. Interactions are conducted in a compassionate and customer-focused manner to meet the needs of patients effectively.

Familiarity with standard equipment necessary for performing essential job functions.
Skills and Knowledge:
Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute with accuracy.
Ability to project a professional demeanor.
Proficient in reading, writing, comprehending, and speaking fluent English.
Basic computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsing.
Capability to multitask and work efficiently to maintain patient flow and scheduling.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the Patient Access Manager, Patient Access Supervisor, Physicians, Physician offices, and Carle Health Ancillary departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Registration and Data Accuracy:
Engage with patients or their legal representatives to collect and input accurate demographic and insurance information to ensure data integrity.
Schedule and register patients while adhering to compliance regulations.
Collect complete and compliant data from patients or guarantors.
Follow all policies and procedures to optimize financial performance.
Utilize tools such as real-time eligibility responses and online resources to verify patient eligibility.
Communicate patient benefit information and adhere to collection guidelines.
Execute downtime procedures to maintain data integrity.
Customer Service Excellence:
Uphold Carle Health's values in all interactions.
Consistently apply AIDET principles in every engagement.
Provide exceptional customer service and professionalism to all patients and visitors.
Answer phone calls in a clear and professional manner, screening calls by urgency and directing them appropriately.
Anticipate business needs to assist colleagues and adapt to staff coverage across registration areas.
Financial Services and Billing:
Understand policies for self-pay or underinsured patients and refer them to the appropriate teams for resolution.
Ensure accuracy in data collection by addressing registration errors as identified in work queues.
Comprehend authorization and medical necessity requirements.
Utilize standardized tools to identify and secure necessary documentation.
Maintain financial integrity in the billing system through accurate reconciliation of point-of-service collections and cash drawer balancing.
Employ estimate tools within EPIC to present financial liabilities accurately.
Facilitate the collection of financial liabilities and assist in payment arrangements.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Contribute to departmental goals by attending meetings and engaging in performance improvement initiatives.
Proactively assist colleagues and adapt to staff coverage needs across registration areas.
Support the training of new hires.
Foster teamwork by collaborating effectively and supporting team decisions.
Maintain accountability for individual actions while encouraging and mentoring others in a constructive manner.
