We are seeking an accomplished physician, educator, and leader to serve as the founding Chair of the Department of Primary Care and Medicine. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, the Chair will provide strategic direction for the Department, oversee departmental operations and administration, recruit and evaluate departmental faculty, and represent the Department's interests at the College and University levels.
Key Responsibilities- Establish the Department's goals and objectives, manage faculty and staff, and oversee the Department's contributions to the curriculum.
- Develop internal and external partnerships, manage budgets and resources, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Advance osteopathic excellence through innovative education, research, and clinical partnerships across the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine curriculum.
- Recruit and develop talented physician educators with exemplary teaching, scholarship, and practitioner capabilities.
- Secure diverse affiliations with clinics, hospitals, and healthcare centers to provide robust clinical training environments.
- Foster passion for lifelong learning and commitment to underserved communities among trainees.
- Build partnerships to increase research capacity and external funding.
- Achieve early programmatic accreditation milestones and prepare for COCA site visits.
- Provide vision, oversight, and direction for the Department's teaching and instruction, including curriculum design, delivery, and evaluation.
- Coordinate teaching assignments for Departmental faculty and develop longitudinal assessment plans.
- Promote the adoption of innovative, evidence-based instructional methods and technologies.
- Participate in the development and delivery of the curriculum and the assessment of student learning.
- Support the development of faculty teaching skills as medical educators and osteopathic role models.
- Partner with stakeholders to facilitate student advising and ensure opportunities for student mentoring, scholarly activity, and professional growth.
- Ensure programs meet evolving accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Build and advance Department infrastructure to meet ambitious institutional goals, including recruiting and developing exceptional faculty.
- Establish leadership structure, policies, and processes.
- Diversify sources of financial support through partnerships, contracts, grants, and philanthropy.
- Promote faculty scholarship through mentoring, infrastructure, and career development.
- Foster affiliations with teaching hospitals, health centers, and medical groups.
- Develop continuing professional development offerings.
- Actively participate in school governance, operations, and accreditation.
- Develop synergies with other department chairs and administrators.
- Implement strategic goals and uphold osteopathic principles.
- Advocate for Department priorities and emerging needs.
- Terminal degree (DO/MD) in requisite area of expertise.
- Board certified with clinical expertise in internal medicine, primary care, or associated sub-specialties.
- 10+ years of academic medicine experience with progressive leadership.
- Subject matter expertise relevant to department focus.
- Experience in medical education with progressive leadership experience.
- Subject matter expertise in evidence-based osteopathic practice.
- Experience with strategic planning, faculty development, curriculum design, and people management.
- Record of effective departmental or program leadership at the graduate or medical education level.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and teams.
- Scholarly portfolio and proven external funding record.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence.
- Excellent people management and consensus-building skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented mindset.
