Motor Grader Operator

This position is responsible for operating a motor grader to construct and maintain county roads and drainage systems.

• Operate a motor grader to grade county roads prior to paving, pull ditches, and maintain road shoulders.
• Operate a sloper to pull ditches, clear ditches, and cut banks.
• Operate a bulldozer to clear rights-of-way.
• Operate a front-end loader to load trucks with rocks and dirt.
• Operate a backhoe to dig ditches.
• Operate a roller to smooth asphalt and roll bases.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment, including checking fluids, changing blades, and refueling equipment.
• Maintain daily logs of work performed.
• May operate a tractor to mow grass on rights-of-way.
• May clean pipes and repair slopes following bad weather.
• May shoot grade using a transit level.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The work is typically performed outdoors and may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and inclement weather.
