About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled RN First Assistant to join our Surgical Services team at SSM Health. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will provide direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients to provide optimal exposure for surgical procedures, using stabilizing equipment as needed to maximize patient comfort and safety.
  • Implement physicians' orders to provide visualization of the operative site, using appropriate methods to manipulate tissue and materials, retract, sponge, suction, and irrigate.
  • Utilize appropriate techniques to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patients' age-specific needs and clinical needs.
Requirements
  • Completion of an RNFA program that meets AORN standards for RN first assistant education programs.
  • Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty or an APRN with completed RNFA program that meets AORN standards.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice.
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification from the Competency & Credentialing Institute.
