The Global Agile Integrated Transport (GAIT) is a robust MPLS network designed to interconnect the Army Regional Hub Nodes (RHNs), various DoD Teleports (SATCOM only), and additional points of presence, facilitating a global tactical network. This network is essential for training, contingency, and operational missions on an international scale. GAIT enables the successful integration of processing equipment that addresses a multi-phase convergence methodology: Transport Convergence phase 1 (Intelligence Convergence) and phase 2 (Telemedicine Convergence). It also serves as the backhaul network for emerging requirements such as Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) as well as En route Mission Command and Control (EMC2).

The PM Tactical Network (TN) encompasses a diverse team of satellite engineers, technicians, network specialists, cybersecurity experts, and other technical professionals engaged in program and project planning and management.


Key Responsibilities

Primary Job Functions:

  • The Senior Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for supporting the NSC's daily operations, which include comprehensive monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and providing technical support to NSC customers, particularly in satellite systems.
  • Collaborates with PM TN to enhance and refine the network/system design by effectively utilizing emulation test bed capabilities and other laboratory resources for continuous improvement of GAIT.
  • Assists PM TN in developing network architecture, establishing evaluation criteria, and formulating experiments and test plans.
  • Engages in data analysis and formulates recommendations, supporting the creation and maintenance of a large-scale virtual network emulation environment through available commercial tools and in-house development.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of networking technologies and a strong analytical background to clearly define, analyze, and relate results back to system design and characteristics.
  • Participates in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with internal and external groups as the subject matter expert (SME), focusing primarily on command, control, and communications systems technologies.

Work Environment:

  • Work is conducted in a climate-controlled facility.
  • May require support during non-traditional working hours, including nights or weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling 40 lbs. unassisted.
Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in networking/telecommunications, or applicable work experience may be considered as a substitute. Prior service SATCOM experience, including 25S or 31S MOS, is also acceptable.
  • Cisco Networking certifications are preferred.
  • Direct experience in managing LAN/WAN technologies or supporting enterprise networks is essential.

Experience / Skills:

  • Experience in installations, repairs, troubleshooting, or maintenance of satellite systems; capable of solving complex problems, understanding circuit interrelationships, and exercising independent judgment in supporting communications systems or equipment; OR
  • Expertise in military satellite communications or commercial satellite communications terminals, including X, C, KA, Ku-band satellite terminals; and FDMA, TDMA, IP-type satellite modems; OR
  • Experience in networking and cybersecurity technologies and platforms.
