The work week is structured from Thursday to Wednesday, covering a total of 13 weeks. Candidates must have graduated from an accredited School of Nursing and possess at least one year of acute care nursing experience. While prior Emergency Department experience is preferred, it is not mandatory.
Essential qualifications include the ability to identify and respond to life-threatening situations, a comprehensive understanding of nursing principles, and the capability to deliver high-quality patient care. Nurses should be adept at assessing patient needs across various dimensions, including clinical, educational, mental, and spiritual aspects.
Safety awareness is crucial; nurses must recognize safety issues for themselves and others, and be proficient in using lifts for patient mobility. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to perform under pressure, and effective leadership capabilities to prioritize and delegate tasks.
Additional responsibilities may include acting as a charge nurse when necessary. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential. Candidates must hold a current NYS RN license and have BLS and ACLS certifications. PALS certification is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
During the orientation phase, nurses must achieve IV, medication, and phlebotomy certification. Successful completion of a lethal dysrhythmia exam during the probation period and defibrillation certification within six months of employment are also mandatory.
