About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at Glenwood Behavioral Health Hospital. As a pivotal member of our mental health services, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals and families through their therapeutic journeys.

Salary Range: $25-30 an hour

About the Position:

This full-time Recreation Therapist position requires a compassionate, skilled professional committed to delivering high-quality psychotherapeutic services. You will apply a range of techniques and interventions to address emotional and behavioral disorders, tailoring treatment plans to the unique needs of each patient.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete activity assessments through patient observation and interview, obtaining information on patients' needs, skills, interests, and limitations for developing and implementing treatment plans.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and implement activities within the treatment program to facilitate patient progress with treatment goals.
  • Develop and implement activity programs, including therapeutic leisure skills and activities, leisure education, and leisure awareness.
  • Facilitate and lead activity sessions to improve patients' mental and physical well-being.
  • Instruct patients in activities and techniques, such as sports, dance, music, art, or relaxation techniques designed to meet their specific needs.
  • Develop treatment plans and implement activity interventions that meet patients' needs and interests, helping them achieve their treatment goals.
  • Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games, and community outings.
  • Help patients learn social skills needed to become or remain independent.
  • Modify activities to suit the needs of specific groups.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers always.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or certified in the area of specialty required.
  • CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
