Acute Neurology - Neuro Stepdown (NT8)
Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering professional nursing care aimed at ensuring the comfort and health of patients. The RN prepares necessary equipment and assists physicians during examinations and medical procedures. Responsibilities include administering prescribed medications, changing dressings, cleaning wounds, and monitoring vital signs of patients. The RN also observes and maintains detailed records regarding patient care, conditions, reactions, and progress.
The RN actively participates as a primary nurse, associate nurse, team member, or team leader in the planning and execution of patient care. The RN directs and supports the implementation of safe aseptic techniques and procedures. Leadership and guidance are provided to all support staff within the department.
Unit Overview:
8NT is a 36-bed unit specializing in Neuro Telemetry and Neuro Surgical Services. The primary patient demographic includes individuals with stroke, brain, and spinal conditions, encompassing a range of issues such as seizures, brain aneurysms, laminectomies, cervical fusions, stable craniotomies, and mechanical thrombectomies following a 24-hour ICU recovery. We maintain a strong collaborative relationship with our neurosurgeons and neurologists, who offer education and guidance to enhance our nursing care. Our unit is proud to hold TJC Comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Certification, and we are committed to fostering a culture of teamwork and quality. Every member of our team, including physicians, stroke coordinators, nurses, certified nursing assistants, therapists, and case managers, plays a vital role in the success of our unit.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
- Preferred one year of nursing experience.
- Current Texas State RN License.
- CPR certification (American Heart Association).
- ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer date.
- EKG certification required within 90 days of hire/transfer date.
- NIHSS certification required within 90 days of hire/transfer date.
