The County of El Dorado is seeking a skilled Veterinarian to join our team as an Extra Help employee. As a Veterinarian, you will be responsible for providing medical and surgical services to animals at our county animal shelters.
Key Responsibilities- Examine, diagnose, and perform routine and emergency medical treatment of all impounded animals.
- Vaccinate animals against common diseases and perform spay/neutering surgery on animals prior to adoption.
- Develop and implement protocols for handling ill and injured animals in the shelter.
- Provide ongoing training for staff to identify animals requiring isolation or veterinary care.
- Oversee the visual monitoring of impounded animals and ensure that problems are promptly reported.
- Perform euthanasia of designated animals.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- One (1) year of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of animals in a clinical setting, private practice or shelter environment, including the performance of surgery.
- A valid license issued by the California Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine to practice as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
- A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and maintain Drug Enforcement Administration licensure.
