Position Overview

The Financial Aid Specialist plays a crucial role in the operations of the Financial Aid Office, focusing on the assessment and management of financial assistance documentation. This position is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to students and their families regarding financial aid options, payment plans, and eligibility criteria.

Key Responsibilities

The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for a variety of essential functions, including:

  • Maintaining the front desk operations for all student interactions.
  • Delivering exceptional service to students, families, and external partners.
  • Guiding students through the financial aid application process to ensure they receive their financial aid packages.
  • Responding promptly to inquiries from students through various communication methods.
  • Conducting workshops, both in-person and online, to assist with the completion of financial aid applications.
  • Providing educational resources on financial literacy and related topics.
  • Advising prospective and current students on the financial aid application process and eligibility.
  • Reviewing and processing student aid applications, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected.
  • Ensuring quality assurance in the documentation and processing systems.
  • Monitoring the academic progress of financial aid recipients in accordance with established regulations.
  • Staying informed about federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations.
  • Processing student loan requests in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Managing a caseload to ensure timely receipt of documents and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Generating reports as required.
  • Interpreting financial aid regulations and guidelines.
  • Adhering to office policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating effectively with third-party vendors.
  • Engaging with federal systems for grants, loans, and reporting as necessary.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and colleagues to support departmental functions.
  • Performing additional duties as needed to enhance the success of the division.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least one year of experience in financial aid or a related area. Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of financial aid regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in office software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience in financial aid, ideally within a community college context.
  • Familiarity with student information systems, particularly Banner.
