Position Overview
The Associate Director of Public Works plays a pivotal role in overseeing the administration and technical aspects of the FSU Public Works operations.

Key Responsibilities
Direct the operations of the University equipment maintenance facility and associated maintenance programs.
Prepare and manage the departmental budget, ensuring adherence to established procedures and personnel functions.
Foster and maintain effective working relationships with municipal officials, peers, subordinates, and community organizations.
Develop and implement training and apprenticeship initiatives to enhance staff skills and oversee the Maintenance career pathway for skilled trades personnel.
Supervise various maintenance teams including Roofing Maintenance, Utility Electricians, and General Labor.
Provide leadership and direction to assistant directors and supervisors, ensuring accountability for performance and engagement.
Manage facilities maintenance operations, including staffing, evaluation, training, and supervision of team members.
Collaborate with the FSU community and coordinate with other Facilities and campus groups to ensure operational efficiency.
Oversee the allocation and expenditure of personnel and operational funds.
Ensure staff are adequately trained in environmental and safety regulations in compliance with all relevant policies.
Participate in strategic planning for the Facilities Maintenance team and contribute to the Facilities Deferred Maintenance Plan.
Review and authorize procedures for emergency and routine repairs, as well as planned preventative maintenance.
Assist in implementing process improvements to address performance issues related to design or chronic system failures.
Coordinate with construction projects to facilitate smooth transitions from design to maintenance.
Maintain communication with building personnel and other departments to ensure quality control and customer satisfaction.
Act as interim Director of Maintenance in the absence of the Director of Facilities Maintenance.

Qualifications
Master's degree with four years of relevant experience in facilities or grounds services, or a Bachelor's degree with six years of related experience. A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain one is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a business-related field with comprehensive knowledge of building codes and public works systems.
Over 10 years of experience in a construction trade leadership role managing skilled trades personnel.
Experience in higher education facilities is preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
Ability to interpret complex specifications and regulations.
Capability to develop and implement policies and procedures effectively.
Skills in evaluating process effectiveness and proposing improvements.
Strategic planning abilities to drive organizational change and motivate teams.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to facilities management.
