The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive care to patients within the oncology unit. This position involves assisting healthcare professionals in various patient care tasks, ensuring that patient needs are met with compassion and efficiency.
General Patient Care Responsibilities: The technician is responsible for addressing the comfort and hygiene needs of patients. This includes providing essential services such as bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, and changing linens. The technician also distributes meals, takes vital signs, and collects laboratory specimens.
Technical Responsibilities: The role involves assisting in patient testing and treatment procedures. This includes setting up IV tubing, performing basic tracheostomy care, changing dressings, and executing cardiopulmonary resuscitation when necessary.
Equipment Management: The technician aids healthcare professionals in the preparation and management of medical equipment and supplies.
Patient Transport: Assisting patients with mobility using assistive devices and ensuring safe transfer during transport is a key responsibility.
Communication and Documentation: The technician is expected to maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with patients and their families, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while upholding patient confidentiality.
Quality Improvement: The technician is encouraged to utilize resources efficiently to enhance quality and cost-effectiveness in patient care.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma preferred.
Experience: Less than one year of relevant experience required; 1-2 years preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
Required: Certified Nurse Assistant and CPR certification.
Additional Requirements: Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program and placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or an equivalent educational background in a clinically focused program.
