Job Title: Histology Technician

Inova Health System is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team at the INOVA Fairfax Medical Campus. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in preparing tissue samples for the Pathologist to review.

Job Summary:

The Histology Technician is responsible for cutting, staining, and preparing tissue samples for the Pathologist to review. This includes prioritizing and completing testing procedures in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining proper records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintains accurate documentation such as variance forms, process specimen logs, equipment maintenance logs, etc.
  • Recognizes and identifies different gross tissue structures to ensure proper orientation.
  • Ensures that the tissue is embedded according to standard operating procedures.
  • Communicates STAT cases, discrepancies, and assists with continuous workflow.
  • Embeds 35 – 40 quality cassettes per hour. Cuts 20 – 25 quality slides per hour.
  • Meets any continuing education requirements to maintain certification(s) or as required by department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma equivalent
  • 1 year Histology Tech experience OR Successful progression/productivity for 1 year in the Inova Histology Tech Trainee position OR Inova HT/HTL program graduate eligible for ASCP certification
  • ASCP HT/HTL is not required with 1 year Histology Tech or Inova Histology Tech Trainee position experience
