Job Summary

The Emergency Department Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame.

Renders professional care in accordance with the physician treatment plan and the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units, which can range from neonate to geriatric.

Ensures that compassionate, engaged care meets or exceeds quality standards.

Care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the South Carolina licensure and AAMC standard of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs frequent and accurate assessments, interprets and correlates findings, establishes a plan of care, and implements short-term goals.
  • Observes patient progress, records pertinent observations, implements physician and nursing treatment plans, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Utilizes nursing skills to determine the biophysical, psycho-social, environmental, self-care, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual and educational needs of the patient/family/significant other to develop, implement, and revise the plan of care.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Priority given to ED or critical care nursing experience. Prior RN nursing experience required.
  • New RN graduates with prior experience as an LPN, EMT, or who have non-RN, but closely related experience may be considered for this position.
License and Certification
  • Current SC Nursing License or Multi-state license or temporary SC license.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required. Certification in TNCC is preferred.
Working Conditions

May have irregular hours and long periods of standing. Should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and will seek assistance when heavier objects need to be lifted.

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital environment.
