Cafeteria Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cafeteria Assistant Floater to join our team at McDowell County Schools. As a key member of our food service team, you will play a vital role in ensuring that students receive nutritious and delicious meals in a clean and welcoming environment.

• Assist the Cafeteria Manager in overseeing kitchen operations, including food preparation, serving, and cleaning.
• Organize and train staff on food production, food service activities, and record management.
• May function as a cook, cashier, server, or helper, depending on the needs of the cafeteria.
• Ensure compliance with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) regulations and maintain accurate records.
• Perform routine tasks such as food preparation, serving, cleaning, and sanitation tasks.
• Submit orders, payroll, attendance, production sheets, inventory, maintenance, and equipment requests in a timely manner.
• Use computer software to order food and supplies according to established specifications and procedures.
• Report to the Cafeteria Manager and maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues.

• A High School Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of experience in food preparation in an institutional setting or childcare.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and safety procedures, including TPHC and HACCP standards.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
• General knowledge of kitchen equipment and ability to operate and clean it safely.

The Cafeteria Assistant Floater will work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with frequent exposure to heat, noise, and physical activity. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, stand for long periods, and move quickly and safely in a busy kitchen.
